# Back on the late boat from Ibiza, and the flat will not open

You walk off the ferry into Dénia, it is dark, and the keys are in a bag on the island or the door simply will not give. What to check on the quay and what to send before you ring.

Baleària runs boats from Dénia to Ibiza, Formentera and Palma, and they come back again. A good number of people walk off them into the town after dark: residents back from a few days on the islands, visitors starting a week in a holiday flat, owners who flew into Ibiza and crossed by sea. Most of them get home without a thought. This is for the ones who do not.

## First, on the quay

Before anything else, take everything out of the bags. Keys travel to the bottom of a rucksack on a boat, get dropped into a coat pocket you are no longer wearing, or end up in the glovebox of a car still parked at the terminal. Five minutes on a bench with the luggage open is cheaper than any call-out.

If the keys really are somewhere else, work out where. Left in a hotel room in Ibiza, they can often be posted. Lost on the boat, the crew or the company’s office may have them. None of that helps tonight, but it decides whether the lock needs changing later or only the door opening now.

## If you are staying in somebody else’s property

Holiday lets are everywhere in Dénia: more than 5,000 homes are registered for tourist use. If that is where you are going:

- Message the host or the agency before you leave the port. Many have a spare key nearby or a key box code they forgot to send.
- If they want a locksmith to let you in, they have to confirm your booking to us. Have the confirmation on your phone.
- Your passport or ID needs to match the name on the booking. No match, no opening, for your sake as much as anyone’s.

## What to send before you ring

A call is fine on its own, but these three things make it quicker (every way to reach us is on [the contact page](https://locksmithindenia.es/contact/)):

1. **A location pin.**

  From the port to a block on the Carretera de les Marines or a villa in Les Rotes is a real distance, and a pin removes all guessing.
2. **Which door.**

  The street door of the building, your own front door, or a gate.
3. **What happened to the keys.**

  Lost, locked inside, or in the lock but refusing to turn.

With that, you get a realistic idea of when someone can be there. Nobody should promise you ten minutes on a summer night, and nobody here will.

## And afterwards

If the keys were lost with anything showing the address, have the cylinder changed once you are back in. If they are simply on the other island and on their way back, you may not need to.
